After practice on Friday, the New Jersey Devils announced their active 23-man roster.  It is as follows:

Forwards (13): Ilya Kovalchuk, Patrik Elias, Travis Zajac, Dainius Zubrus, David Clarkson, Ryan Carter, Steve Bernier, Stephen Gionta, Stefan Matteau, Jacob Josefson, Cam Janssen, Krys Barch, Bobby Butler

Defensemen (8): Bryce Salvador, Marek Zidlicky, Andy Greene, Henrik Tallinder, Anton Volchenkov, Adam Larsson, Peter Harrold, Mark Fayne

Goaltenders (2): Martin Brodeur, Johan Hedberg

While this is the announcement, in all likelihood, it will not be the final roster.  If Butler clears waivers at noon tomorrow, He will be sent down to Albany and Mattias Tedenby will be recalled from the A-Devils.  If Butler is claimed before noon, they will simply call up Tedenby for Opening Night.  Either way, from the roster above…just flip Tedenby for Butler.  That is what you will see come 7 p.m. on Saturday.

Of the 13 forwards on the roster, both Rich Chere and Tom Gulitti believe that Barch will be a healthy scratch for Opening Night.

Adam Henrique has been placed on the Albany roster, not on IR.

The Devils open their season on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the New York Islanders out on Long Island.
